THIS EXEMPTION INSURES THAT AMATEUR RADIO OPERATORS IN BRITISH COLUMBIA WILL CONTINUE TO PROVIDE IMPORTANT PUBLIC SERVICE COMMUNICATIONS WHILE DRIVING A VEHICLE WITHIN THE PROVINCE. THIS NEWS VIA THE OFFICE OF THE SUPERINTENDENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES FOR THE PROVINCE OF BRITISH COLUMBIA. *** NOTICE *** OPERATIONAL CHANGE *** IRLP NETWORK *** STARTING SUNDAY JANUARY 3, 2010. THE WEEKLY ONTARIO ARES IRLP NETWORK WILL BE CONDUCTED ON THE NEW ONTARIO PUBLIC SERVICE REFLECTOR # 9035 LOCATED IN HALIBURTON COUNTY AND NOW SERVING THE NEEDS OF EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS PROVIDERS SUCH AS THE ONTARIO ARES, CANWARN AND MANY OTHER PUBLIC SERVICE RESOURCES AND PARTNERS THROUGHOUT THE PROVINCE. DRIVERS WHO HOLD A VALID RADIO OPERATOR CERTIFICATE ISSUED UNDER THE RADIOCOMMUNICATION ACT (CANADA) MAY DRIVE A MOTOR VEHICLE ON A HIGHWAY WHILE HOLDING OR USING A TWO-WAY RADIO. IN SIMPLE TERMS THIS FINAL DRAFT OF SECTION 14(1) UNDER ONTARIO REGULATION 366/09 PERMITS AN EXEMPTION FOR OPERATORS USING TWO-WAY RADIO EQUIPMENT SAFELY INSTALLED IN A VEHICLE AND ACTIVATED BY THE USE OF A PTT (PUSH TO TALK) MICROPHONE. THE EXEMPTION READS THAT THE BILL DOES NOT APPLY TO RADIO APPARATUS OPERATED UNDER THE AUTHORITY OF A RADIO OPERATOR CERTIFICATE ISSUED UNDER THE RADIO COMMUNICATIONS ACT.
